awhile but may have never gotten a good foundation in color mixing &
theory and understanding values this beginning watercolor workshop will help
you gain confidence, loosen up and remember how to play.

Drawing
on the Right Side of the Brain
June
1-4, 2010 Tuesday-Friday
4 full days Grafton, New York
Based
on the book Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Dr. Betty Edwards you will
learn the basic strategies of seeing that enable you to draw your
perceptions clearly and accurately. You will learn to “turn off” the
dominant left hemisphere, which interferes with drawing because of what it
knows, and “turn on” the non-dominant right hemisphere that sees clearly
and can draw beautifully. You will learn a set of “tools” that will
serve you well in all future drawing experiences. It is great fun and you
will be truly amazed. No
previous art experience is necessary!

Drawing and Painting Flowers
in Watercolor
June
21-25, 2010 5
days Grafton,
New York (Beg-Int)
This workshop has an expanded drawing component that Ann has been developed for beginning and intermediate art students who want to break through to a new level of drawing flowers for watercolor. Through a unique combination of blind contour, contour and gesture drawing, students experience increased perception and facility in drawing flowers-a facility that will carry over into their painting. Through a variety of techniques that make transferring their drawings to watercolor paper possible students will experience a freedom from the anxiety often experienced when painting a drawing done on watercolor paper. After having studied the flowers closely through drawing, we'll see what happens when we cut loose and paint without drawing. Having reached a new depth of understanding through drawing we'll go on to invent and explore different painting possibilities in a safe and supportive atmosphere.
There will be a special section of negative painting, and an abundance of live flowers. Bring your own photos if you have them. Ann's comprehensive reference file will be available. Intermediate students may also set up and light their own arrangements.
