Drawing and Painting Flowers
in Watercolor (New!!)
June
22-26, 2009 5
days Grafton,
New York (Beg-Int)
This
combined drawing and watercolor workshop is recommended for both students who
are beginning flowers in watercolor and intermediate painting students-and
beginning drawing students as well. The
first sessions of this brand new watercolor workshop "Drawing and
Painting Flowers in Watercolor" will focus on studying flowers
through many different drawing techniques- blind contour drawing, line drawing,
and value drawings- studying light and shadow on the flowers. We will go on to looser
gestural drawings, painting from our drawings and, having studied the
flowers closely through drawing, we'll see what happens when we cut loose
and paint without drawing.
There will be a special section of
negative painting, and an abundance of live flowers. Bring your
own photos if you have them. Ann's comprehensive reference file will be
available. Intermediate students may also set up and light their own
arrangements.

If you have always wanted to try watercolor but been afraid to, or have
tried it and become discouraged, take heart. This workshop will dispel your
fears and help you begin to experience painting as an enjoyable and magical
part of your life.
This
unique beginning watercolor workshop based on Watercolor: A New
Beginning: A Holistic Approach to Painting is a holistic approach in
that it honors each person, wherever they're at and whatever they do- with
the understanding that we are always doing the best we can (given our
experience, our knowledge and our state of mind). You will learn ways to
deal with the inner critic and open up to your own creative process while
also connecting with our beautiful world by painting from life.
Especially geared for
the absolute beginner and for those who have been painting awhile but may
have never gotten a good foundation in color mixing & theory and
understanding values this beginning watercolor workshop will help you gain
confidence, loosen up and remember how to
play.
Wet-in-wet, color mixing, neutrals, washes & glazes, values, hard and
soft edges, negative space, backgrounds, working in a series, drawing, and
more will be explored in a playful and supportive atmosphere.
( If you used to
paint and want a great way to get back into it, you come too! )

Our
yearning to connect with our world and express its beauty is natural and
vital. Painting the landscape in watercolor offers us a way to feel that
connection and experience our place in the world. It also gives us a
wonderful way to enrich our vacations and travels. Sitting and painting a
little watercolor in a place internalizes our experience of being there and
brings it back to us like no photograph can do.
The
Artful Journal
November
14-15, 2009 Saturday &
Sunday Grafton, NY
The Artful Journal workshop is a weekend of total fun bringing our love of
color and imagery into our journals, both old & new.
This is a chance to get out and use all those art materials we have
been collecting -- watercolors, markers, colored pencils, rubber stamps,
etc. etc. We will make a journal from
scratch, and discover new things together and from each other.
Ann will share many techniques including collage, binding techniques,
personalizing the covers of our journals, different ways of bringing color
to the pages, carving rubber stamps of our own personal symbols and new
techniques she has learned since giving the last Artful Journal Workshop.
There will even be time for a little writing!!
Come and give free rein to your creative spirit in an atmosphere of fun and
adventure as we add a new dimension to our soul’s journey.
(No previous art experience is necessary.) “This workshop is
over the top!!”
Drawing
on the Right Side of the Brain
(Not
scheduled in 2009)
Based
on the book Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Dr. Betty Edwards you will
learn the basic strategies of seeing that enable you to draw your
perceptions clearly and accurately. You will learn to “turn off” the
dominant left hemisphere, which interferes with drawing because of what it
knows, and “turn on” the non-dominant right hemisphere that sees clearly
and can draw beautifully. You will learn a set of “tools” that will
serve you well in all future drawing experiences. It is great fun and you
will be truly amazed. No
previous art experience is necessary!

your own family and the workshop reference file. No previous art experience
